Match Report: Lightning cut above Lynx

17/DEC/2007 – Adelaide's first 100-point WNBL game in 25 months was strangely unsatisfying yesterday at the Distinctive Homes Dome.

Halfway through the first against the bomb shelter's Perth, Lightning struck, Renae Camino (13 points), Jess Foley and Tracy Gahan (13 points, 12 rebounds) behind a surge which took the score from 8-8 to 16-8.

Ballgame. By the first break, Adelaide was out 31-16 and really only had Sam Richards (15 points, seven assists, five rebounds, a steal and a block) offering consistent resistance.

An early 10-0 run put the Lynx further in the rear-vision mirror at 41-18 before Lightning coach Vicki Valk - who had suggested a 100- point game was not beyond her team - started clearing her bench en route to a 100-66 rout.

Not all of her alternates seized their chances but Emily Fryters certainly did, with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting, five boards and a steal in under nine minutes.

But that was probably the problem. Not all of her team-mates approached their opportunity with the same gusto, the Lynx able to sneak back to 32-50 by half-time.

With Foley shoeless and icing an ankle she hurt late in last week's home win over Townsville, Adelaide still opened the second half in blistering fashion.

Erin Phillips (15 points, six assists) scored within nine seconds from a steal, igniting a 13-0 start in which Jenny Whittle (nine points, seven boards) and Sam Woosnam (eight assists, nine rebounds, five points) both were prominent.

Richards broke the drought but Whittle and Angela Marino (14 points) bumped the lead out to 67-34, some five minutes before the end of the third.

It would have been more embarrassing but Perth outscored the Lightning 13-4 to close the term. With hopes of the 100 fading, Valk reintroduced Phillips who drew a foul on the siren.

She then swished all three free throws to reach the ton.
